Oil, Acrylic & Spray on Canvas, 30″x40″
Growing up in the UK in the late 70’s and early 80’s, the movie CLOCKWORK ORANGE was hugely influential to me, largely because the ‘powers that be’ tried to ban it. That just made the whole thing more appealing. Tell someone they are not allowed to see a movie, and it becomes even more significant! So the character, Alex, became this iconic figurehead of a misunderstood youth. With a combination of heavily textured oil paint and smooth acrylic spray stencil work, I wanted to capture the most recognized image from that movie in a way that illustrates the messy and chaotic nature of his personality. Partly smooth, partly abrasive, partly falling apart, mostly a product of his environment.
