I’ve always heard the saying “the more things change, the more they stay the same”. In a world where it feels like things are changing every day, it’s kind of hard to believe that things stay the same. Recently with what we’ve all been through, many have probably felt things have changed and maybe not for the better to a certain degree. But, over the past few years, as we’ve been told to stay distant to each other, the one thing that has stayed the same is love. I did this painting for my grandparents. They met in high school, fell in love and been married for 50 years. From surviving the Vietnam war to struggling with the loss of a late term miscarriage, they’ve always stayed with each other. As a veteran, when the covid vaccine first became available, my grandfather was one of the first to be eligible to receive the vaccine. But, my grandmother wasn’t. She was informed she’d have to wait a few months. And so, my grandfather refused to go without her. For their entire lives, they’ve been at each other’s side and not even a global pandemic was going to change that. As my grandfather always says: “We go together”.
